Personal readings with space for the political.π
About My Practice
I view tarot as a playful, creative landscape where we can work together to think newly and vulnerably about the hard questions, as well as about our hopes for ourselves and our world.
Personal readings are an intimate, creative collaboration where we use the cards together to inspire questions, ideas, and possible new ways of seeing. My goal is for you to leave bubbling with new connections, new hope, and new approaches to understanding and achieving what matters to you.
I believe the personal is political, and I also see the work of reading tarot as a portal for tackling questions around race, identity, and relating across difference. If it speaks to you, we can use tarot to explore possible blind spots, find clarity, and explore creative ways of narrativizing your experiences. We can also explore ways of navigating micro aggressions and untethering self from cultural stories and stereotypes.
I have a PhD in Rhetoric with a concentration in Gender, Women, and Sexuality from UC Berkeley. I use my training as a reader of culture, as well as my 15 years of experience reading tarot, to weave together the personal and political, emphasizing joy, creativity, and working with your most heartfelt desires.
Values & Guidelines
The main values I bring to our time together are:
- Warmth
- Connection
- Creativity
- Depth
As a reader, I use my understanding of the cards to begin our journey of exploration, but I also make space to listen to what comes up for you as we co-create meaning together. Whether you come to a reading with a specific, burning question or a general hunch, I first work to understand your goals in order to create the best possible structure for our time together, be it a traditional spread or a more individualized pull. Then, through conversation, we work together to tell the story offered by the cards, letting intuition, attention, and spontaneity perform their magic.
Favorite Decks
The decks I return to time again are:
- The SMITH RIDER WAITE deck (you can read my love letter to this deck on my website.)
- The MODERN WITCH TAROT DECK by Lisa Sterle - a queer, racially diverse deck that is my favorite take on the Smith Rider Waite.
- THE WILD UNKNOWN ANIMAL SPIRIT DECK by Kim Krans. Not technically a tarot deck, I sometimes bring these cards into the fold to help me create new, dynamic spreads.
Remarks & Reflections
"I asked Alex for a reading during a period when I was faced with increased responsibilities, conflict, and the sense of few resources. I felt tired and unclear on whether I was making the right decisions. Alex performed a custom five card reading that I requested (past, present, future, a significant relationship, and my body). The results were profound and moving. The deck she used was beautiful and depicted my experiences perfectly, and the future card definitely came true ^-^. I highly recommend Alex as someone who is in touch and can offer helpful truths with grace. She created a space for me that felt full of light while at the same time grounded and protected. I'm sure she will do that for you, too.β - Tenzin, Artist, New York NY
"Alexandria is an incredibly intuitive tarot reader. Sheβs read for me multiple times and every time, it's been incredibly insightful. She has a unique and deep understanding of the cards and is able to deliver meaning in an understandable way. She also asks great questions, which led me to some incredible realizations. She even inspired me to get my own deck!β - Liesbeth, Montessori Teacher, Bay Area CA
"For my birthday, I received an amazing tarot reading from Alex. She brought a lot of care and intention. Her insights and thoughtful questions helped me understand the implications in ways that were very profound. I carried that experience with me for a long time and would highly recommend a reading with Alex.β - MJ, Social Justice Organizer, Oakland CA
